[Mixtape Review] @RellyOnSMASH vs. Lil Wayne’s “Sorry for the Wait”

In Flex We Trust is always looking for new things to add to the blog, and we’re proud to introduce our latest segment with one of our favorite Twitter users, Relly. We’ll be giving him the floor to review the latest mixtapes and albums in hip-hop and this week, we’re going to start off with Lil Wayne’s brand new mixtape, Sorry 4 the Wait. The 11-track mixtape was an appetizer of sorts from Tunechi, to hold his restless fans over until his highly anticipated “Carter IV” album drops this August. Should Wayne have even bothered with this mixtape? Find out Relly’s take on it after the jump.

Relly Vs Sorry 4 The Wait

This mixtape received a lot of hate in the heartless Twitter streets. Before I even attempted to swim through the dot coms and locate a download link, I did what I always do, ask my followers how they feel about it. According to most of my followers and the tweets on my timeline, this mixtape is filled with pain, agony and disappointment. But being the Lil’ Wayne fan that I am, I went ahead and downloaded the shit anyway. Now my followers hardly ever steer me wrong, so I was listening to this project anticipating the sound of pure struggle to fill the room. Come to find out…..the people that I provide daily laughs for tried to trick me b. This mixtape is FAR from garbage, and I can pretty much ride out to it from beginning to end.

Lil’ Wayne is the same artist that gave us, “No Ceilings”, “Drought 3” and “Dedication 2”. So when people hear the words “Mixtape” and “Lil’ Wayne” in the same sentence, they automatically expect a classic. I think that’s where a lot of hate and disappointment for this mixtape generated from. People were expecting to hear a classic mixtape from Wayne, but didn’t get it. People have to understand that everything can’t be a classic. You just have to take certain things for what they are. This project was obviously put together in a short amount of time just to give people some new music to enjoy while they wait for the already pushed back Carter IV album. The very FIRST thing you hear Wayne do is spark up a blunt, take a hit and say “…..Man Fuck These Niggas”. That right there alone let me know that Wayne was about do what he does best….Not give a fuck.

Stand Out Tracks: “Gucci Gucci“, “Tunechi’s Back“, “Rollin Freestyle” and “Racks Freestyle“. I can definitely say Wayne truly BODIED all these beats like he paid for them. Nigga Wayne took the “Gucci Gucci” beat, slammed it in the middle of the ring, then jumped off the top rope on it. “Hammers In Your Face, This Is Not A Dream/ And You Gettin’ Every Page Of This Magazine”. I had to run that track back at least 5 times before I could slither through the rest of the tape. And what he did to the “Racks” beat made absolutely no sense at all. The fact that he didn’t get scooped up to lay a verse on the Rack Remix STILL boggles the mind.

Struggle Tracks: Struggle tracks? Yeah nigga, struggle tracks. Even classic mixtapes/albums have songs that would’ve been better off wiped squeaky clean and deleted. Although I gotta say, Sorry 4 The Wait was pretty much struggle free until I heard “Marvin’s Room Freestyle“. I don’t know though, maybe I’m being biased. The original by Drake was so hot to me that any remix I hear gets slipped inside the failure folder by default. But the REAL audio torture doesn’t kick in until 2:33 on “Grove St. Party” I’m still not sure if this was a prank, a mistake or if Lil’ B had Wayne tied up at gun point while he recorded this verse. Lil’ B might have even set a Guinness World Record for rapping the longest without one single word rhyming. “Niggas Don’t Understand Man The Game Like A Chain Man/ That WOOP! WOOP! Swag, Bitch Bllllang Thang Thang Thang Man”????? Yeah, if any you find out exactly what the “Blllang Thang Thang Thang” is, please contact me immediately.

What It’s Worth: In conclusion, Sorry 4 The Wait is a decent mixtape that I thoroughly enjoyed. This is the type of shit you throw on when your baby moms has the kids for the night. The perfect music to listen to while the side chick rolls up the weed. Basically just some dope shit you kick back and forget about all your responsibilities to. I applaud Wayne for supplying his fans with new free music to hold them over until his anticipated album release. So despite all the bad reviews I read before hearing this tape, Sorry 4 The Wait gets the Relly approval.
