(Photo) Iggy Azalea Responds To Rah Digga’s Claims That She’s Not Hip Hop

IFWT_iggy-azalea-responds

In an interview with ThisIs50Radio, Rah Digga said she is not a fan of Iggy Azalea’s music. Iggy caught wind of Rah Digga’s comments and responded to Digga’s claims about not being considered a Hip Hop artist.

Jade Raven

To ThisIs50Radio:

“Iggy Azalea it’s like I can’t get into her,” Rah Digga said in the interview. “Because it’s just not real to me…There is a White girl from Australia that spits in an Australian accent, and her name is Chelsea Jane. That I can get into. Teach me Australian Hip Hop culture. Don’t come to America and try to convince me that you’re Gangsta Boo…Personally, I don’t consider her Hip Hop. I listen to her album. Everything that I hear on there is everything but that. And I feel like Hip Hop is Hip Hop.”

Iggy later took to Twitter yesterday (September 24) to respond to her latest critic, saying that she doesn’t care how she’s labeled. Her “passion is purely making music and entertaining.”

Check Iggy Azalea’s tweets in response to Rah Digga in the gallery above.

So let Rah Digga, and Iggy Azalea have a rhyme battle. We already know Rah is HIP-HOP. Let Iggy earn her stripes! She only got a pass because she bit Da Brat’s rhyme style.

  2. Vee on September 26, 2014 at 9:21 pm

Her style is unique and it’s representing a new fashion in hip hop. Iggy spitting fire that can’t be battled. Let haters talk and be mad at the new comer ! Keeping 100

    • sasha on September 27, 2014 at 1:31 am

Leave it to a black bitter female?? If any female rapper was gonna state how she felt about Iggy’s music who has been even remotely heard of shes gonna be black. What’s the point in stating her race? If she doesn’t like her style of rap that’s her problem. Iggy still doing what she loves and puttin them coins n her pocket. But people who really love music dgaf what the color of a persons skin is, just as long as its relatable.

  6. Aly on September 26, 2014 at 9:31 pm

Iggy is not hip hop inclined. But I do like her swagga. Rah Digga is too damn old. Shit I’m 35 and still haven’t heard from this vet in years. Let the new age bishes handle the music… Stop hating…

    • natasha on September 27, 2014 at 2:35 pm

Word to the freaking bird yo. I was just about to say. all the bitxhes that talk shit about Iggy are mad Cuz shes naturally beautiful yo. She also could chosen other career paths. Shes also a model. She’s super tall and beautiful.

  7. Brandy LeCompte on September 26, 2014 at 9:32 pm

Just another black no body rapper hating on a white girl making that money. Keep doing it big Iggy. Make them racist haters hate hard hunny!

  8. ely on September 26, 2014 at 9:37 pm

It’s funny how everyone forgets hip hop was born out of the struggle of black ppeoples social standing….since the industry through money at to calm the blablack people who came from a history of not even owning anything to saying they can take their family out the hood. So now anyone (black and white)thinks they could say anything just to be able to have money yet they can’t uphold the intent behind rap in the first place

    • Hahaha on September 26, 2014 at 11:02 pm

Actually, when Blondie released the single “Rapture” which was one of the first songs recorded with a rhyming rap in the bridge of the song, it was understood that the term “Rap” for that genre of music came from the abbreviated Blondie song “RAP-ture.”
So you would be incorrect. About your whole “blacks made rap from their struggles” shit is false.
Check your facts before you talk.

      • jamminj on September 26, 2014 at 11:06 pm

No honey… Blues was invented by the enslaved African Americans not hip hop

        • The Dolomite on September 27, 2014 at 2:47 pm

Rap origins is African. The Yoruba people were rapping over the beat of a talking drum long before

      • Kevin on September 27, 2014 at 2:44 am

Hahaha you need to check your facts Rap as we know it, came from the streets of NYC in the late 70’s well before Blondie made Rapture! Learn the history and the message behind it and you’ll understand the context in what Ely meant in his post!

      • AmunRa7 on September 27, 2014 at 3:41 am

I don’t think that is true. I want to say Curtis Mayfield was Rapping way before Blondie.

  12. Yadii on September 26, 2014 at 10:06 pm

Hiphop was born out of the black peoples trials and tribulations. The idea of hip hop was to relate how everyday life was.. But mainstream has led it to be a whole diff perspective.. In the early millenium hip hop was reversed to talk about women, money, fashion, sex, drugs, violence etc… I feel like iggy is more hip pop* like many other mainstream hip pop* artists. Who talk about that. Rah digga isnt a hater. Its people who make negative comments against her and whoever else makes an opinion against mainstream music artists who are the haters who dont know a single thing about music and just follow artists because of their looks, fashion, and scandalous statements they make. If you really wana talk then go out there and make music yourself. Thats how you defend yourself and any artist you look up to. Do your research.

  13. heather on September 26, 2014 at 10:08 pm

I have never one time heard Iggy label herself as rap or hip hop. It is other ppl lumping her into those catergories. Hell there are black men who sing country music, which is white ppl music, but u don’t hear white ppl telling them that they r not supposed to sing “white ppl” country music!! I am sooo sick of ppl pulling the damn race card!! Stop hating! Damn there is room for everyone!! Anyone who pulls the race card r so ignorant to me!!!

  14. artron on September 26, 2014 at 10:30 pm

  15. Lexi on September 26, 2014 at 10:41 pm

Iggy doing her thing. If she was black it wouldn’t even be an issue. And people kill me when they claim she doesn’t write her own stuff but praises Easy E and he ain’t write sh*t! Times change. Change or get get left behind!

    • tia on September 27, 2014 at 1:02 am

In her song “work” she is simply saying “I’m not hating I’m tryna let u know what she been through” she may not write her own stuff (she don’t) but she just like everyone else she is trying to make it!

  16. crm on September 26, 2014 at 11:08 pm

Iggy best feature is her ass, her tunes are catchy good music for the radio, but I wouldnt say shes the best rapper, she aiight!! I heard better shit, Rah had a good run in the 90s, all u young whipper snappers are all into the radio scene and all u care about is the drama, fashion and looks. Listen to music for what it is, not because this or that artist made the tabloids on some shit. Even though I dont like her, I still listenbecause music is music. Just enjoy it!!

    • qua on September 27, 2014 at 7:52 am

I think Iggy brings a new flavor to female rap. When you are a artist you want to do some a little different. Tjat what she is different. Her sound is her own . Lyrical she has a nice flow I think she can rap. What was the last song Rah Digga came out with. She did the same thing Nikki did threw out alot of hate. Women should stick together in the rap game and respect each other point blank. She can’t get into to her no she mad cause she’s that new bitch.

She use to rap with busta rhymes and the flip mode squad

  27. Kat on September 27, 2014 at 12:42 am

Why is this an issue? The culture is changing, the music, Hip Hop, has several iterations and she does fit within those iterations. She has paid her dues and does not have to be placed in a box. You all consider Eminem Hip Hop and a great deal of the stuff he’s done could be considered Pop and Rock. There is another genre out called EDM and many have parlayed a little towards this, does that make them any less Hip Hop. When Run DMC did “Walk This Way”, did that make them any less Hip Hop. She can spit! Believe it or not there are rappers that engage in lyrics that don’t equate to actual events in their lives but we consider them Hip Hop. Although, she’s from Australia, she has lived in Florida, Texas, and Georgia and being an ATLien, I know you can’t help but be influenced by us ,:-) ATL, the South, all of Hip Hop has :-). My advice to you Iggy, rock what you want to, rap what you want to, keep making the hits because you have bonafide hits. Kudos to you, your team and my Man T.I.P. Stop the ignorance, Nicki was embraced, pushed by her camp, took the influences of predecessors and elevated her game and now she’s declaring herself Queen. As a Hip Hop artist you are trying to kill the game and Iggy said she was in the murder business and she’s doing it. I’m so sorry for those that don’t like it. Keep Murdering them Aussie! Shout out to my favs: Queen Latifah, Yo Yo, McLyte, Da Brat, Tupac, TI, Nas, Jay-Z, Outkast,LL Cool J, J Cole, Goodie Mob, Young Bloods, Bone, Thugs, and Harmony, Nelly Rakim and to all that have changed and elevated the culture, to everyone that just simply made music the way they felt it, expressions of their art. Also, to the one’s that made us dance, we needed you as well!

  28. IGGYSOKAY on September 27, 2014 at 1:02 am

How do these old school female rappers know if Iggy is even trying to be the voice and face of hip hop? She’s more of a pop rapper and a fan of hip hop. We all know she’s from Australia and moved to the south when she was 16. So what? There’s black people doing country, white people doing R&B, and british people making music with American origins. Welcome to 2014. She should let Iggy get her shine and if she’s so pressed on keeping hip hop alive drop her own shit.

  29. tia on September 27, 2014 at 1:10 am

Hip hop is hip hop yes it was all African American now it multi cultural let’s just give respect to those who trying to make it big ups to Iggy u betta work n b fancy at the same time n bounce!

I feel like every one is reading what they want to see and ignoring the actual article itself and are pulling the race card on gifts behalf but the article clearly states there’s a white girl from Australia chelsey Jane that raps in amAustralian accent that I can get into show me the Australian rap culture don’t move to the states and rap with a southern accent and act gangsta is what she said pretty well she never once mentions iggys race as a white girl just Chelsea janes ! Learn how to read … And I know a bunch of y’all are gonna pounce on me due to my grammar and punctuation to try and make me look dumb but I do not give not 1 fuck !

Im no rah digga fan, but no one here knows Imperial? Dont even comment about hip hop then

  34. RacistWhiteKidsRunTheCharts on September 27, 2014 at 2:46 am

While it was not the first single featuring rapping to be commercially successful, it was the first to top the charts. Its lyrics were especially notable for namechecking hip-hop pioneers Fab Five Freddy and Grandmaster Flash. That is for the blondie guy. It is funny how if a white face is thrown on something the teeny boppers say that it is better. Fighters, Basketball players, actors, musicians, comic characters…. if they look like you they are the best. Most rap is garbage today… Wayne, Kanye… hell wacklamore won all those awards. Hip Hop has changed and evolved but most of what is on the radio waves is garbage. These people are actors, people playing WWE roles and many eat it up. Iggy is a cartoon character much like Kanye and Weezy. If Pac was alive non of these fake chumps would even be in the game for more than a weekend.

  35. Daniel on September 27, 2014 at 3:08 am

Who is rah digga anyway? No one knows you and no one watched thirteen ghosts… BYE!

haha but she is right rah digga is right she is white but she sounds like a black girl it makes know sense to me she sounds like she is from portland well i can’t talk cus i’m from portland lol but she sounds like she is a black girl from portland but she is white not trying to be rude but that is the truth.

  39. Ryan on September 27, 2014 at 5:05 am

OMG I’ve never heard of Rah Diggah until just now. Just sayin.

  40. Ryan on September 27, 2014 at 5:14 am

I like how Christina Aguilara can sing like the ladies at a southern gospel church, or even Jessie J!! Those women can blooowww, but as soon as a white girl starts rapping it’s all of sudden an issue. Wake up people. It’s not about her accent it’s about her skin color. It’s just Ignorant racist people stereotyping others AND themselves who have nothing to do with their time but hate on someone who has the success that they WISH they had. Either way… Iggy still hot and obviously gives (0) f*cks!

  41. iggy biggy on September 27, 2014 at 7:53 am

    who dat ..who dat !!

  42. Alex on September 27, 2014 at 9:13 am

Hip-hop is international and that means Australia, it would be good to hear bout iggy growing up in Aus, but she is doing as stuff and that is fine, she shouldn’t even acknowledge someone who ain’t made shit for ages. And she says “Coz right now iggy on top.”

  43. Elvis on September 27, 2014 at 9:24 am

If something is not hip hop then its not and am not a Racist here…..For those askin about Rah Digga, Respect the Predecessors

  44. Adam on September 27, 2014 at 11:11 am

I love Iggy, I’ve been listening to her since day 1, but she’s become hot garbage. The New Classic was an overhyped mess, filled with pop tunes that just so happen to have some rapping on them. Rah Digga is by far the superior MC, it’s not debatable. So just because you don’t know her doesn’t mean shit other than you more than likely only listen to whatever shit the radio & Billboard told you was hot at the moment. And Digga wasn’t hating, she was asked a question & she answered it honestly. So fuck all the way off with the nonsense most of y’all are typing up

  45. Anjana Love Dixon on September 27, 2014 at 12:15 pm

It is a shame that a person who has not had a number one hit in over a decade has to be sour grapes over a person that is entertaining, blurring cultural lines, and connecting to something truly meaningful to her. Iggy has likely worked harder. Let her have her time to enjoy the fruits of her labor.

  46. Jamie Hontros on September 27, 2014 at 1:38 pm

This is just beyond ridiculous!! Idc if your white, black, mexican or purple…if you got then you got it and Iggy def has it!!! Shut up you washed up racist bitch…what’s your name again? Oh Idk who you are bc you suck!!

  47. Pete Preston on September 27, 2014 at 2:10 pm

Rah digga is entitled to her comments but she she understand and accept the backlash. Dissing anybody, I mean anybody, is disrespectful. Iggy just does her thing, NO NEED for Rah, or whatever to like or even comment on her style. Iggy just does iggy and like everyone else, she is just doing her own bit, her own way.

  48. Art on September 27, 2014 at 2:27 pm

I bet all the people saying Iggy is so dope are white. To be honest race does matter in America.100 years from now all the rappers will be white in the history books. Stop stealing our sh**. I saw a post that said Iggy & mackelmore king and queen of hip hop….somebody need to stop this foolishness

  49. Jazz on September 27, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Does anyone realize that if a Black Country artist such as Darius Rucker was told he wasn’t “true country” bc country music was started by white people, the person who stated that would be hated and labeled as a racist? Same goes for those saying Iggy can’t possibly be a rapper bc rap was started by black people. Another double standard. Racism goes both ways. STOP.

  50. Tim on September 27, 2014 at 11:30 pm

If you don’t know rah digga that’s your own lack of knowledge shining through. If you ve listened to the whole fugees collection then you have heard her. She was asked a question and answered it honestly, that’s her right. I’m not going in to iggy criticism… Pop is pop, hip hop is hip hop. If you can’t see the difference then you never will.
