What Is Cash Money Denying Lil Wayne? Mannie Fresh Gives Us The Answer!
Shhh, a Big Tymer is speaking! Since December, when Lil Wayne announced his disconnect with Cash Money, from thoughts of ‘it’s a stunt’ to ‘he should just leave’ everyone has/had an opinion. Next to speak their belief is former resident producer to the most disliked label, Mannie Fresh. “This kid is way ahead of himself,” he says about a determined Wayne. “Even when he was young, he was four grades up.” His time has come to move on. According to Mannie Fresh, Cash Money is holding the Sorry 4 The Wait 2 rapper back from advancing beyond hip hop. “I think Wayne is starting to see it in that way. Hip hop can only bring you so far,” Fresh tells the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Isn’t that the truth for any genre?

It’s time for Wayne to spread his wings and fly. Go beyond the scope of normalcy – e.g., features with the same ol’ YMCMB characters – and grab a new set of fans. “I think he’s going — real talk — ‘I could probably use Drake and Nicki, but I’ve done that so many times,'” Fresh said. “Let’s get out there and do things so I can show that I am bigger than life.”
“Wayne has given us some great albums, but he has never given us that album with like a Justin Timberlake on it — with features where like, OK, this is what we expect from an artist of your caliber. … Like you went out and got Cher on the song, because you are that dude. You’re on that level.”
Mannie Fresh adds:
“He’s going to get somebody with star power that can bring other people to the table. If I did do a song and I got Justin Timberlake on it, I got Justin Timberlake fans as well,” said Fresh, who has also crafted hits for Juvenile and The Notorious B.I.G. “I think Wayne is starting to see it in that way. Hip hop can only bring you so far.”
Wayne has dabbled in the rock-realm, but we all know that it didn’t work out too well. I mean, given his lack of creative control within the label, it’s understandable why. What are your thoughts? Should Lil Wayne dive into other genres? Will making popular tracks with Justin Timberlake make him any bigger than he already is? Drop your comments down below.
