Vince Staples Wanna Be Starting Something; Rapper Goes In With N.OR.E. & Twitter Users Over 90s Hip-Hop

I’m a fan of Vince Staples; he makes sense on many topics, but I’m going to have to disagree with him on his opinion of 90s hip-hop. No, it’s not because I’m old as dirt, but because the rappers of those days were just ill with the words. I mean, Nas; Tupac; BIGGIE!

Any who, the 22-year-old Long Beach native decides to hit up Twitter to fill his feed with back-and-forths on the 90s era music scene being far off on his ‘cool’ radar.

“I never said it was overrated. I never said it was bad. I never said the 2000s was better,” he writes about the music that influenced some of the greats from today. “I said I remember that era BUT I do run fades.”

Hip-Hop heads from all over has an opinion, even Queens’ own N.O.R.E., and Staples was kind enough to have a response for everyone.

“Whatever you were watching or listening to when you were young is always going to be your favorite thing because it made you what you are today,” Staples continued on his “preference” of hip-hop. “That’s always going to be something that you appreciate the most, so that’s everyone’s favorite era. You confusing a hip hop head with a nigga that has a job making music.”

N.O.R.E. chimed in by writing, “[your] favorite rapper was Bow Wow I get it still a idiot statement from some one who we hardly know ya dues ain’t paid.”

In comes the “Señorita” rapper with the following:

You a grown man, if you got a problem call Corey Blacksmith for a conversation I thought you was a super thug nigga. @noreaga. Damn. I aint never gonna be able to listen to that Nina Sky Nore song again cuz just ruined it for me. That shit go so crazy too.

He continues with his love of “gang banging” and also adds that while folks are bashing him for his dislike of a popular era, they could be talking about more community-related topics such as “that kid who got HER ass beat by the police in class.”

Hmm, what a debate. I will say this, I’m team hip-hop. I respect all eras, although there are some artists within the different eras that should have never been given a mic, for different reason.
