(Video) Let’s See Taylor Swift Shake This Off: $42 Million Lawsuit, R&B Artist Claimed To Be Ripped Off
Well the song does say haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate but she never mentioned how suer’s gonna sue sue sue sue sue, probably cause she never seen this one coming. R&B artist Jesse Graham filed a $42 million lawsuit this week against the Grammy-winning Taylor Swift — after his request for a selfie with the singer was denied — claiming that her hit “Shake It Off” rips off a key phrase from a song he wrote back in 2013 called “Haters Gone Hate”. Hit the jump and compare the songs, you be the judge for this one.
It seems like the saying is true: mo money mo problems. Every time there’s an artist that makes it big there seems to be somebody who comes out the woodworks asking for credit and financial benefit. Jessie Graham, 50, says Taylor’s signature hit borrows heavily from a song he wrote in 2013 called “Haters Gone Hate.” He alleges that the chorus of Swift’s 2014 anthem (“‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play / And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate”) borrows from his slow-jam “Haters Gone Hate,” which contains the phrase “Haters gonna hate, players gonna play.” Even further, Graham says his lyrics are “Haters gone hater, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.” He brings attention to the fact that in Swift’s 2014 hit song, the phrase is used more than 70 times. So he’s basically trying to say… her entire chorus is a ripoff of his song. Apparently he simply asked to be named as a writer on “Shake It Off,” and also requested that Swift take a selfie with him. But the huge pop star’s team repeatedly dismissed him, he said, arguing that his claim to ownership had no merit. “Her hook is the same hook as mine,” he told the Daily News on Saturday. But he wasn’t done making his claims, oh no, he said, “If I didn’t write the song ‘Haters Gone Hate,’ there wouldn’t be a song called ‘Shake It Off.'” Then continued to say, “At first I was going to let it go, but this song is my song all the way.” Wow, strong statements, hopefully he can really back them up. Listen to both and you make the decision if he’s talking that talk or just talking basura:
