NFL: Darrelle Revis Turns Himself In As The Jets Reportedly Look To Cut Ties With Him

Darrelle Revis turned himself in late Friday night to police in Pittsburgh to answer for the four felony charges and one misdemeanor charge he is facing. He was subsequently released on bond and is scheduled to be back in court on Thursday. He did not answer any questions from the media who had gathered outside.

Attorney Blaine Jones told ESPN that Revis has a “very good case,” and “ready to answer charges.” Jones was only Revis’ attorney for pre-trial services and Bobby Del Greco will be his attorney moving forward. Del Greco represented Pittsburgh Steelers assistant coach Joey Porter last month after Porter allegedly was involved in an altercation outside a Pittsburgh bar. All but the two least serious charges were ultimately dropped.

There are still many questions surrounding the incident involving Revis. Twenty-Two year old, Dallas Cousins, along with his twenty-one year old roommate, Zacheriah Jarvis, were the two men who were knocked unconscious by Revis or another unidentified man who came to his aid. The incident only started however after Cousins began following Revis around and harassing him, recording from his phone the entire time.

Police have reviewed the video on the phone which reportedly shows Revis walking away while being followed by Cousins. He even is heard saying to the camera multiple times “Why are you following me?” The video then cuts off.

The roommate allegedly came over to help Cousins after Revis tried to snatch his phone away and when that chaos was happening, another man ran to help Revis and witnesses aren’t sure who actually hit the other two men. Revis and the unidentified man left together in a truck before police arrived.

A witness, Nathan Watt, told police that Revis approached Watt after Cousins and Jarvis were knocked out. Watt quoted Revis as saying, “I got more guys coming.” The complaint added that Revis “stepped within a foot of his face with an aggressive demeanor on his face, fists clenched, and stated, ‘Do you want to be next?'”

Revis’ attorney says his client was “physically assaulted while at the location by a group of at least five people” and was a “victim in all of this.”

It all sounds like despite the two men being the ones who got hurt, they were the instigators in the situation as a whole. Hopefully it will get worked out for Revis but while he focuses on the legal side of things, his team, the New York Jets may be looking to move on from him.

Revis already had the worst season of his career last year, where he was consistently beaten by even the most average of receivers after being one the most elite defensive backs in NFL history. There were already talks to move him to safety to help protect him from man coverage and to help him stay on the team but now the Jets may have an excuse to just cut him.

He is due a $2 million roster bonus on March 11, plus another $13 million in base salary (including $6 million guaranteed). All that money may prove to be too much to warrant keeping him at his age and how he declined last season. They could take that $8 million at minimum and invest it in other parts of their team and that’s the feeling from around the league as for what they plan to do.
