Daryl Hall and John Oates’ Have been making hits since the early 80’s. They are know for their smooth, catchy soulful sound, and as a result it brought them a lot of commercial success including six number one singles and six platinum albums. Hall & Oates go on record for saying their song “No Can Do” doesn’t sound like a blatant rip off. They compare it to Robin Thick’s “Blurred Lines” that is exactly like Marvin Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up” They do mention being inspired and stealing are two different things. The duo Thought it was cool that MJ was inspired by their song.
I guess this stealing/borrowing of style, sound and music has been an issue since the beginning of time. If you fast forward to present day music. We still don’t know who the 0-100 song really belonged to P-diddy or Drake. There is such a gray area; Mary J Bilge said Faith took her style. Kim said Nicki took her style. Tyga said he was originally on the “Truffle Butter” song and now the song as we know it only has Nicki, Drake and Wayne on it.Who is right and who is wrong? We can go on and on,but the proof is in the pudding check out the video below and you be the judge. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Do you think Hall & Oates should have kept that info to themselves; since The “”King of Pop” isn’t alive to speak for himself?
