(Video) Sports: Crazy Night At UFC 196 As Both Conor McGregor & Holly Holm Are Upset!
Conor McGregor talked a little too much and was unable to back any of it up as he was defeated via choke hold by Nate Diaz last night at UFC 196. You may have thought Diaz lost by the way his face looked if you saw him after the fight but he was able to sustain some punishment but stay focused. In the other main event, the legend of Holly Holm was also short lived as she lost to Miesha Tate, pulling her back down to reality after her legendary win over Ronda Rousey.

McGregor rose to stardom rather quickly, especially after his 15 second win in his last fight courtesy of one single punch. Perhaps his ego got the best of him in the lead up to the fight with Diaz but Nate was ready for everything Conor had and took a beating and was still able to get the win.
Diaz accepted the fight on only about two weeks notice and was still able to shut McGregor up and in the process earn himself an extra $100K for the win.

McGregor for his credit moved up two weight classes for the fight, and acknowledged afterward that the difference in size had a big impact on the outcome.
“I feel I was simply inefficient with my energy,” he said at the postfight press conference, per Bloody Elbow. “Usually, when I fight a man in the division I am champion in and they crumble under those shots. But Nate took them very well. I think the weight allowed him to take those shots well.”
After the fight, McGregor reflected on being humbled and gave credit to Diaz.

Diaz had the walkoff moment shortly after the fight while speaking to Dana White in the ring.

McGregor should bounce back fine as he goes back down to the lower weight division where his strength should allow him to dominate but after the loss you can bet opponents will feel more confident when they get in the cage with him.
In the other shocker of the night, Miesha Tate choked out Holly Holm, indirectly killing the hype of a Holm vs Rousey rematch.
After surviving a brutal takedown by Tate in the second round of their bout at UFC 196, Holm regained control of the fight. But that ended about halfway through the fifth and final round when Tate scored another takedown.
Tate dug her arm under Holm’s neck and held on tight as Holm tried to flip her off. The two women landed on the canvas where Tate maintained her hold and Holm lost consciousness.
“I thought I had to be like a pit bull on a bone,’’ said Tate, who improved to 18-5 and won her first UFC championship belt. “I coudn’t let go.’’
“I let my guard down, and it cost me the fight,” Holm said in her postmatch news conference.
Tate will now defend her title against Rousey according to Dana White
“I text Ronda, and she said, ‘What happened?'” White said. “I said, ‘Miesha just choked her unconscious.’ She said, ‘Looks like I gotta get back to work.'”
Rousey’s two previous wins against Tate each came via armbar. Holm said she wanted a rematch against Tate but would take any opportunity UFC provided.
