A Brooklyn father Killed By A Hit And Run!

The story for now is that Cruz was killed by a hit and run in Brooklyn on his daughters 10th birthday. A devoted Brooklyn dad was killed on his daughter’s 10th birthday Thursday when he was mowed down by a hit-and-run driver.

Raul De La Cruz was planning to throw a party for his birthday girl Yarlyn at a Chuck E. Cheese this weekend when he was struck near his Williamsburg home.

The impact sent De La Cruz and an unidentified woman flying from one side of Borinquen Place to the other — where he was then struck by another car heading in the opposite direction, police said.

“It was horrible, horrible,” said motorist Fitz Davis, who drove the second car that struck De La Cruz. “I took one look at him and I knew he was finished.”

Police later arrested 27-year-old Adam Recio at his Brooklyn home after running the plates of the wrecked 2004 Chevy Malibu he abandoned after the accident. The car belongs to his dad.

Recio, who has prior arrests for drugs, forgery and grand larceny, was charged with causing a deadly accident and leaving the scene, police said.

Meanwhile, relatives of the dead 36-year-old Dominican immigrant said they were trying to figure out how to gently break the sad news to his daughters.

The younger one, Yaisnet, is just 7-years-old. They both live in the Bronx with their mom.

De La Cruz’s sister, Ingrid, said her brother doted on his girls and saw them “every weekend.”

“Sometimes they stayed a week, whenever they didn’t have school,” she said.

De La Cruz’ cousin said the salsa-loving victim worked long hours at a parking garage on 23rd St. in Manhattan to support them.

“He was always working,” said the cousin, who was weeping and asked not to be identified. “I can’t believe it.”

Police did not release the name of the injured 24-year-old woman, who was in serious condition at Elmhurst Hospital.

De La Cruz and the woman were crossing Borinquen Place from south to north near Keap St. when they were stuck just after 5 a.m., police said.

They had gotten halfway and were waiting in the striped area between the yellow lines in the center when the eastbound Chevy, which was trying to pass another vehicle, slammed into them, police said.

“In 30 years of driving I’ve never seen anything like this,” said truck driver Miguel Bocourt, 57. “The guy was going so fast. He was like a bat out of hell.”

De La Cruz “went flying up in the air,” said Bocourt.

“When I saw it, I was shocked. I thought that he was gonna stop, but he just kept going,” Bocourt said. “I tried to chase the guy down, but I lost him. He took off on foot.”

De La Cruz was then struck and run over by a 2004 Kia driven by Davis, who pulled over immediately, police said.

Davis said he thought the Chevy was going to hit him too.

“I thought I was going to die. He came almost into my lane,” said Davis. “He was going so fast, you don’t even have time to react. He was driving too fast.”

Recio later ditched the Malibu on Union St., police said.
